Die zweite Bundesliga ist die zweithöchste Spielklasse im deutschen Fußball und ist seit Saison 2 im BMO vertreten.
Jeder Verein der Liga tritt in Hin- und Rückspielen gegen jeden anderen Verein der 2. Liga an. Die drei Mannschaften mit den meisten Punkten aus allen Spielen steigen auf in die Bundesliga (in Saison 2 und 3 die ersten beiden). Die letzten drei Vereine der Liga steigen ab in die Regionalliga (zeitweise auch der letzte, die letzten beiden, bzw. die letzten vier Vereine). Entsprechend steigen von dort z.Zt. die drei bestplatzierten Vereine auf.
Aufsteiger
Aus der zweiten Bundesliga steigen seit Saison 2 jede Saison der Zweitligameister sowie der Zweit- und Drittplatzierte in die Bundesliga auf (zunächst nur Meister und Zweitplatzierter). Folgende Mannschaften sind bisher aufgestiegen:
Rekordaufsteiger sind Nürnberg, Cottbus, Rot-Weiß Stuttgart und München Unterhaching mit jeweils 4 Aufstiegen.
Absteiger
Die Mannschaften, die am Ende der Saison auf den Plätzen 16 bis 18 stehen, steigen in die 3. Liga ab. Folgende Mannschaften sind bisher abgestiegen:
Rekordabsteiger ist somit Aachen mit sechs Abstiegen.
