Die Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli S.p.A., besser bekannt als SSC Neapel, ist ein italienischer Fußballverein aus der süditalienischen Stadt Neapel.
Heimstätte ist das Stadio San Paolo, welches trotz für heutige Fußballstadien stimmungsfeindlicher Architektur bei "großen Spielen" wiederholt zum "Hexenkessel" wird.
Der Fußballklub aus Neapel gilt traditionell als das Aushängeschild Süditaliens im Fußball, da man jahrelang in der Serie A den wohlhabenden Vereinen aus dem Norden des Landes Paroli bieten konnte. Aufgrund dieser Popularität konnte der SSC Neapel in den siebziger und achtziger Jahren auf die durchschnittlich höchsten Besucherzahlen aller Fußballvereine weltweit verweisen. Der Spitzenwert von 77.597 Zuschauern pro Begegnung aus der Spielzeit 1984/85 wurde erst sieben Jahre später vom AC Mailand übertroffen. [1] [2]
In Italien werden der SSC Neapel und seine Spieler oft als „Azzurri“ („die Blauen“) oder auch „Partenopei“ (in Anlehnung an die gleichnamigen antike Stadt in der Magna Graecia, die als die Keimzelle der späteren Neapolis und des heutigen Neapels gilt) bezeichnet.
