Saisonverlauf
Bereits in der Vorbereitung war Manager Marquinho auf dem Transfermarkt aktiv. Dabei wurden insgesamt 6 Spieler verkauft und 7 Spieler verpflichtet (s.o). Die Ausgaben lagen bei 14,5 Mio €, während sich die Einnahmen auf 28,12 Mio € beliefen. Die Amateure hatten also in dieser Saison allein durch Transfers 13,62 Mio € für den Verein erwirtschaftet. Zu einigen neuen Spielern kam auch ein neuer Trainer. Andre Villas-Boas sollte die Geschicke der Amateure leiten und den eingeschlagenen Weg von Jorge Leitao, der zur Profiabteilung von Sporting Lissabon gewechselt war, fortsetzen. Dieser Weg hieß vor allem eines: Formentwicklung. Das sportliche Ziel war offiziell der Aufstieg, wurde intern jedoch als eher nebensächlich eingestuft.
Die Saison begann mit einem 2:4-Auswärtssieg bei den Amateuren von Associação Desportiva Ovarense. Doch dann folgten eine Heimniederlage (1:3) gegen SL Benfica Lissabon und auch auswärts bei Sporting Clubs Farense (4:0) war man unterlegen. Ein 3:3 zu Hause gegen den FC Rio Ave machte den unglücklichen Start perfekt. Nach dem vierten Spieltag lag man auf Platz 9. Danach folgte eine durchwachsene Saison. Großartige Spiele lieferte CS Marítimo Funchal nur selten ab, wie beim 2:4 beim FC Rio Ave oder beim 5:2 zu Hause gegen Sporting Clube Olhanense. Zugleich wurden auch wichtige Spiele verloren. Ein sicher geglaubtes Heimspiele gegen die Portugal U23 Auswahl beispielsweise 2:3 verloren. Nach der Winterpause befand man sich so auf Platz 5 und hatte schon 8 Punkte Rückstand auf die beiden Aufstiegsplätze.
Lediglich die Aufwertungen konnten zu diesem Zeitpunkt für gute Stimmung sorgen. Insgesamt wurden 7 Spieler aufgewertet, darunter die beiden aus der Jugendmannschaft gekommen Talente Tonel Golães und Carlos Jorge Viegas. Letzterer aber sah schnell, dass er trotz Aufwertung noch einen weiten Weg in die Stammelf der Amateure vor sich hatte und forcierte seinen Wechsel. Als Manchester City dann die geforderten 5 Mio € zahlen wollte, einigten sich Marquinho und Ronaldinho auf einen Wechsel des Spielers zur neuen Saison. Das Transferplus stieg damit auf satte 18,62 Mio €.
Der weiterer Saisonverlauf war dann etwas erfreulicher, doch insgesamt war die Spitze für CS Marítimo Funchal nicht mehr erreichbar.
