Transfers
Durch Verträge aus der Vorsaison kamen folgende Spieler neu zum FC Porto:
- Steve Gerber (AB/29/10) vom FC Bayern München
- Tomé Caramelo (MF/28/9) vom Varzim SC.
Steve Gerber hatte seine Fußballausbildung beim VfL Wolfsburg erhalten. Dort spielte er auch bis zur Saison 37, in der in Conner84 zum FC Bayern München holte. Bei den Münchnern - zu dieser Zeit noch in der 2. Bundesliga - schlug er sofort ein und machte schon in seiner ersten Spielzeit alle Ligaspiele mit. In der nächsten Saison gelang ihm dann mit seinem Klub der Aufstieg in die 1. Bundesliga. In Saison 39 gewann er dann zwar bereits seinen ersten Titel mit den Bayern, den Pokalsieg gegen Holstein Kiel, musste sein Stammplatz in der Abwehr aber öfters für andere Defensivspieler räumen. Doch schon in der Folgesaison übernahm Gerber wieder die Chefrolle in der Viererkette. Die behielt er auch in den folgenden beiden Spielzeiten. In Saison 42 konnte Steve Gerber dann zusammen mit den Rot-Weißen die deutsche Meisterschaft feiern - seine erste und die vierte für den FC Bayern. Doch als Bayerns Manager Conner84 den spanischen Nationalverteidiger Maximiliano Bolivar (31/11) vom FC Parma holte, ließ er Gerber für 16,5 Mio. € zum FC Porto ziehen.
Tomé Caramelo wechselte im Tausch gegen Zamir Bravo (23/8) und einer Zuzahlung von 8,5 Mio. € vom Zweitligisten Varzim SC zu den Dragoes. Caramelo hatte sein ganzes Fußballerleben bei dem Klub aus Póvoa de Varzim verbracht und war dort zu einem erstligatauglichen Spieler gereift. Zusammen mit Raul José Estrada war er in der vergangenen Spielzeit Varzims bester Torvorbereiter und in allen Spielen auf dem Platz. In Portos gut besetztem Mittelfeld konnte Caramelo zunächst aber nicht davon ausgehen, einen Stammplatz zu ergattern, zumal mit ihm auch der 24-jährige Feliciano Azambujeira, aufgewertet auf 9, von seiner Leihstation bei der SpVgg Fürth heimkehrte und die Konkurrenz damit noch steigerte.
Weil Santino Soto, Portos argentinischer Nationalspieler, zum Ende der Saison 42 auf die Stärke 7 abgewertet worden war, beorderte ihn Joernie in Portos B-Team. Als kleine Entschädigung versprach er jedoch, den 33-jährigen zum Kapitän zu machen. Beim bisherigen Spielführer Bruno Eduardo Marques Postiga (28/8) kam das natürlich nicht gut an. Marques Postiga, der eigentlich gehofft hatte, seine Karriere endlich bei den Profis fortzusetzen, wollte nun so schnell wie möglich weg vom FC Porto. Einen neuen Klub fand er in Luxemburg, beim Absteiger aus der Benelux-Ehrendivision, dem CS Grevenmacher. Gevenmachers Gastbetreuer Roger le Chef verpflichtete Marques Postiga für 7,2 Mio. €. Doch der Wechsel brachte dem Abwehrspieler zunächst gar kein Glück. Schon im ersten Training in Luxemburg zog er sich einen Armbruch zu und verpasste damit den Saisonauftakt in der 2. Ehrendivision. Marques Postiga war in Saison 38 von Vitoria Guimaraes zum FC Porto gekommen und hatte sich zunächst recht positiv entwickelt. Doch dann stagnierte seine Entwicklung und so blieb er bis zum Schluss in Portos B-Elf hängen.
