Die neue Saison begann gleich mit einer Überraschung: Trainer Jörn Andersen (54/10), dessen Vertrag nach der missratenen Saison 62 nicht verlängert worden war, verließ Salzburg doch nicht, sondern hängte zumindest noch ein Jahr an der Salzach dran. Ausschlaggebend dafür war zum einen der deutliche Gehaltsverzicht, zu dem Andersen bereit war und zum anderen der Fakt, dass die Austria unter Andersen im Vorjahr mit dem Pokalsieg immerhin einen Titel geholt hatte. Ein Titel, der enorm wichtig war, weil er die Qualifikation für die BMO Europa League bedeutete, die über die Liga deutlich verpasst worden war.
Joernie beförderte folgende Spieler aus dem B-Kader zu den Profis:
