Der Fußballklub Austria (lat. Österreich) Wien ist ein Fußballverein aus Wien. Die „Veilchen“, wie die Austria nach ihren Vereinsfarben genannt wird, wurden 1910 von ehemaligen Spielern des Vienna Cricket and Football-Club als Wiener Amateur-Sportverein (WAS) gegründet. Seinen heutigen Namen nahm der Verein 1926 an. Ursprünglich aus dem 13. Stadtbezirk Hietzing stammend, verlor der Klub 1930 aus finanziellen Gründen sein Heimatstadtion. Seit 1973 trägt Austria Wien seine Heimspiele in der "Generali-Arena" (früher: Franz-Horr-Stadion) am Laaer Berg im 10. Gemeindebezirk Favoriten aus.

Wien ist die Bundeshauptstadt von Österreich und zugleich eines der neun österreichischen Bundesländer. Mit über 1,8 Millionen Einwohnern ist Wien die bevölkerungsreichste Großstadt Österreichs, sie ist die zweitgrößte deutschsprachige Stadt der Welt. Wien war jahrhundertelang kaiserliche Reichshaupt- und Residenzstadt der Habsburger und damit als Hauptstadt des Heiligen Römischen Reiches, des Kaisertums Österreich und als eine der beiden Hauptstädte Österreich-Ungarns ein kulturelles und politisches Zentrum Europas. Nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges verlor Wien allerdings rund ein Viertel seiner Einwohner. Die Altstadt Wiens, die von der Habsburger Regentschaft geprägt ist, sowie das Schloss Schönbrunn wurden von der UNESCO als Weltkulturerbe anerkannt. Heute ist Wien ein internationaler Kongress- und Tagungsort und Sitz mehrerer internationaler Organisationen, wie beispielsweise der Organisation erdölexportierender Länder (OPEC) und der Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa (OSZE). Das Büro der Vereinten Nationen in Wien (UNOV) beherbergt einen der vier Amtssitze der Vereinten Nationen (UNO). Die Internationale Atomenergie-Organisation (IAEO) hat ebenfalls im Gebäudekomplex des Vienna International Centre (VIC), im Volksmund meist als UNO-City bezeichnet, ihren Sitz.
