Die Airtricity First League ist die zweithöchste Spielklasse im irische Fußball und seit der Saison 12 in das BMO-Universum integriert. Bis zum Ende der Saison 29 hieß die Airtricity First League noch Ericom First League.

In der Gründungssaison Saison 12 bestand die Ericom First League aus 10 Vereinen. Anfang Saison 15 wurde die Liga um 6 Vereine erweitert und man spielte mit 16 Mannschaften die Ericom First League aus. 3 Saisons später Saison 18, spielten sogar 18 Mannschaften in der Ericom First League. Dieses sollte sich eine Saison später wieder ändern. In der Saison 19 wurden 6 Mannschaften aus dem Spielbetrieb genommen und man spielte wieder mit 12 Mannschaften.

Jeder Verein der Liga tritt in der Regel in Hin- und Rückspielen gegen jeden anderen Verein der 2. Liga an. Besonderheit dieser Liga ist, das es bei einer Liga mit 10-12 Mannschaften 2 Hin- und Rückspiele gibt. Die beste Mannschaft mit den meisten Punkten aus allen Spielen wird 2. Liga Meister, wobei dieses als Aufstieg vermerkt wird. Bei Punktgleichheit entscheidet das Torverhältnis. Ist auch dieses gleich, wird der Verein mit den mehr erzielten Toren "Meister". Des weiteren steigen die besten 3 Mannschaften aus der 2. in die Airtricity Premier League auf und die 3 schlechtesten Mannnschaften ab, wobei diese nicht wirklich absteigen, da es die niedrigste Profiklasse in Irland ist. In der Saison 12 gab es nur 2 Aufsteiger und auch 2 Absteiger und in der Saison 13 gab es 3 Aufsteiger und 1 Absteiger.
