Transfers
Heftig drehte sich das Transferkarusell in dieser Saison. Neu zum FC Porto stießen die beiden Deutschen Stefan Wessels für 18 Mio € sowie Benedikt Weidenfeller für 7,8 Mio €, beide vom FSV Mainz 05. Im Gegenzug verließ Marc Overmars die Portugiesen für 18 Mio € in Richtung Mainz. Außerdem konnte der 25-jährige griechische Verteidiger Vintra für 9,2 Mio € ersteigert werden. Ebenfalls im Wege der Versteigerung kam der Ire Andy Reid (23) zum FC Porto; für ihn mussten 6,7 Mio € auf den Tisch gelegt werden. Der schweizer Nationalspieler Stephane Henchoz wechselte dagegen für 9,0 Mio € zum FC Lahti.
SuperLiga
Die 13. BMO-Saison beendete der FC Porto erneut auf Platz 3 der SuperLiga. Mit 65 Punkten lagen die Dragaos 10 Punkte hinter dem Überraschungsmeister Vitoria Guimaraes und drei Punkte hinter dem Zweiten FC Vitoria Setubal.
Das war die Stammformation: Stefan Wessels (34 Einsätze) - Franco Alves Ferreira (31), Giovanni Pasquale (31), Ueslei (27), Milos Brezinsky (24) - Benedikt Weidenfeller (31), Sergio Conceicao (30), Nuno Jorge Paulo Duarte (22) - Moussa N'Diaye (30), Marek Heinz (25), Luis Filipe Madeira Frechaut Barreto (22).
Die besten Torschützen: Marco Betis, Marek Heinz und Moussa N'Diaye (jeweils 14 Tore), Benedikt Weidenfeller (11 Tore), Nuno Jorge Paulo Duarte (9 Tore).
Taca de Portugal
Im Taca de Portugal überstand der FC Porto nicht einmal die Vorrunde. Beim FC Vitoria Setubal gab es eine bittere 4:6-Niederlage.
Europa-Cup
Im Europacup musste der FC Porto in der ersten Runde schon wieder gegen Rayo Vallecano antreten und konnte sich auch nochmals gegen die Spanier durchsetzen (5:6, 5:3). Fenerbahce Istanbul war die Hürde in der 2. Runde - und diese war auch in diesem Jahr zu hoch (2:1, 0:2).
Vereinswertung
In der nationalen Vereinswertung landete der FC Porto mit 46 Punkten nur auf einem enttäuschenden 6. Rang (hinter Benfica Lissabon mit 77, FC Vitoria Setubal mit 68, Uniao Leiria mit 58, Vitoria Guimaraes mit 54 und Maritimo Funchal mit 50 Punkten). International reichten die 46 Punkte nur zu Platz 55. Allerdings gab es wenigstens renommierte Platznachbarn: FC Liverpool (48 Punkte), Galatasaray Istanbul (46 Punkte), Arsenal London (45 Punkte) oder Lazio Rom (43 Punkte).
