Die portugiesische Nationalmannschaft ist das Nationalteam Portugals und nimmt bei BMO seit der Saison 5 an Welt- und Europameisterschaften teil. Die Nationalmannschaft existierte somit bei BMO noch bevor Portugal am BMO-Ligabetrieb teilnahm (Saison 8).

Portugal bei Weltmeisterschaften
Die Geschichte Portugals bei Weltmeisterschaften weist einen recht eindeutigen Trend auf: abwärts. Stand Portugal bei der ersten BMO-Weltmeisterschaft noch im Halbfinale, war anschließend immer früher Schluss. Bei der Weltmeisterschaft in den Saisons 9 und 11 reichte es immerhin noch bis zum Viertelfinale. Bei der Weltmeisterschaft in Saison 13 schied Portugal dann sogar schon im Achtelfinale aus. An den beiden folgenden Weltmeisterschaften in Saison 15 und 17 durfte Portugal dann nicht einmal mehr teilnehmen.

Portugal bei Europameisterschaften
Die ganz großen Erfolge bei Europameisterschaften fehlen den Portugiesen. Lediglich bei der im eigenen Land stattgefundenen Europameisterschaft in Saison 7 erreichte das Team das Viertelfinale. Bei den beiden folgenden Kontinentalmeisterschaften musste sich Portugal sogar schon nach dem Achtelfinale verabschieden. Nicht einmal das schafften die Portugiesen dann bei der Europameisterschaft in Saison 14. Nach der Vorrunde war nach Niederlagen gegen Norwegen und Holland bereits das Ende erreicht. Bashi musste daraufhin nach zehn Jahren als Teamchef Portugals den Hut nehmen. Nachfolger Joernie, mit dem große Erwartungen verknüpft waren, gelang es jedoch nicht, den Trend umzukehren. Auch bei der Euro Saison 16 schied Portugal bereits in der Vorrunde aus. Teamchef Joernie wurde noch am Abend des letzten Vorrundenspieltags entlassen!

Europameisterschaft Saison 18
Als es darum ging, zur Europameisterschaft Saison 18 einen neuen Teamchef für Portugal zu bestellen, gab es einen großen Kreis von renommierten Managern, z.B. Corbeau, GasCan und hardkore. Doch auch Joernie bat darum, ihm nochmals eine Chance zu geben und ihm trotz des unglücklichen Verlauf der Europameisterschaft Saison 16 das Vertrauen zu schenken. Der portugiesische Verband entschied sich daraufhin überraschend für Joernie und schloss mit ihm einen 2-Jahres-Vertrag.
Das hätte er wohl besser nicht tun sollen. Denn das Pech blieb Joernie treu. Schon im Auftaktspiel gegen Liechtenstein tat sich Portugal recht schwer, behielt aber immerhin mit 4:3 noch die Oberhand. Es folgte eine sehr rassige Partie gegen Deutschland, das sich als das letztlich stärkere Team erwies und 4:3 gewann. Vor dem letzten Gruppenspiel lagen Portugal und Deutschland damit gleichauf. Portugal musste gegen Irland ran, keines der beiden Teams hatte noch ein Tor auf dem Torkonto, doch 7 FTCP sprachen für Portugal. Deutschland's Gegner war Liechtenstein, das ein Tor mehr auf dem Konto hatte, aber 7 FTCP gegen sich. Für das Weiterkommen wäre also ein FTCP-Tor für Portugal und nicht mehr als 1 FTCP-Tor für Deutschland notwendig gewesen. Joernie's Glück zeigte sich darin, dass Portugal keines, Deutschland aber dafür zwei FTCP-Tore erhielt. Damit war Portugal zum dritten Mal hintereinander in der Vorrunde gescheitert.
